To preserve our history, the Dansville community has worked to honor and save the landmarks that have been such an important part of our growth. Properties listed in the Register include our downtown district, sites, buildings, structures, and objects that are significant in both ours & American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture.
The State and National Registers are the official lists of buildings, structures, districts, landscapes, objects and sites that are significant in the history, architecture, archeology and culture of both New York State and the nation. Once the recommendations are approved by the state historic preservation officer, the properties are then listed on the New York State Register of Historic Places and nominated to the National Register of Historic Places, where they are reviewed and, once approved, entered on the National Register.

Historic Places in the Process of Obtaining National Historic Landmark Status
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church has been named to the State Register of Historic Places and consequently recommended to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. The church was not only the first church in Dansville but it also was the location of the first local chapter of the American Red Cross.
